Persons Sentenced to Weekend Confinement
Under certain circumstances, the court may allow a convicted person to serve his or her sentence on weekends. If you have been sentenced to serve weekends at the Northern Neck Regional Jail, then you need to review the following information:
- Be at the jail at 7 p.m. Friday unless the sentencing court has authorized a different time.
- Bring a photo ID.
- Do not consume alcohol for 12 hours previous to arriving at the jail. Consumption of alcohol/ drugs may result in loss of weekender status. Northern Neck Regional Jail reserves the right to drug/ alcohol test a weekender suspected of being under the influence.
- Do not bring extra clothing, books, food, or other personal property.
- Do not bring cigarettes, lighters, or other smoking materials into the jail.
- In accordance with Virginia law, persons are not charged a fee for serving weekends.
- Weekenders are usually released at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday Morning. You must have a vehicle at the jail or pre-arrange to have someone to pick you up upon release.
- Jail Staff cannot excuse you from serving a weekend sentence, including individuals who are ill. Only the sentencing court can authorize a weekend waiver. You must contact the court, who will in turn contact the jail. Should you not appear to serve your weekend, the court will be notified and you will not be accepted again until the court directs otherwise.
- Weekenders are accepted if they show up late, however, Records needs to be notified. Weekenders are NOT to be accepted if they show up on a different day than ordered (after midnight).
- If a weekender is drug tested and is positive, they will be removed from the weekender program and not released on Sunday but will serve the time straight. If a weekender refuses a drug screen, the court will be notified to determine how they would like to move forward.
